Happy Birthday Parker!
My how time flies! It seems like only yesterday I was in the hospital with Parker, now here he is - already 1. My original due date was September 19th, and I was okay with that, but at 35 weeks we found out that Parker was breech and so we would likely have him earlier. I tried everything that was recommended to try and get him to flip, stand on my head, shine a light on my stomach-- I did some pretty drastic things, but he still wouldn't turn. It was decided that we would go to the hospital on September 12th where the would perform a version (they try and get the baby to turn from the outside- in all reality, it sounds and looked pretty medieval.) If the version did not work, I would have to go in for a c-section. If it did, they would just induce me- the version is only about 35% effective on first time mommies. I went to work on September 11th, the day before and it was not a good idea, I was panicking about all the things I still had left to do. I was NOT ready- So, I called the hospital when I got home to see what time I needed to arrive, and they said 7:00am, so the next morning, I got up early to get ready for the BIG day, and around 6:00 my phone rang, so I answered it, and it was the hospital saying that they told me the wrong time, and I really needed to have gotten there at 5:00- so I said that we would be there soon. At that point, Joe was not even up. I REALLY panicked them. I was rushing to get everything, wake Joe up for him to get ready, and around 6:30 we left. So, we kinda had a panic moment where it was not so perfectly planned. So, we got to the hospital, it all seemed so surreal as I changed into the super cute drape thingy and got all prepped for the epidural, which didn't even phase me. I was hooked up to all kinds of monitors as I waited for the doctor and his assistant to come in. They came in, and started the version, It wasn't really painful, just ALOT of pressure. They were only able to get to a certain point with trying to turn Parker before they realized, that if they kept pushing, it could possibly break his legs, and his heart rate was dropping, so a c-section it was. They gave Joe his super cute little surgery outfit and I got to wear one of those cute hair nets and the wheeled me into the operating room. I was not feeling well, and threw up a few times. My hands were clear out to my side, and I was shaking. Joe came in and held my hand, it helped me feel better. At one point the anesthesiologist told Joe to look and asked if Joe was going to take pictures- Joe responded with "Not of that!" I am actually glad, I don't know if that is something I would EVER want to see. So, at 8:47am Parker James was born, 7 pounds 3 ounces, 19 inches long and the first question I asked was if he had hair- probably not the best first question. So I am not exactly sure what happened after that other than Joe brought Parker over to me, but all I could do was touch his face with my fingers and then they whisked him away. I think I was brought into the post opp room around 10:30am. I was shaking really bad and that is when I found out that during the surgery they had nicked and artery and I had lost about 2 liters of blood. I had to get blood, but my veins were so bad at this point that they had a hard time getting it in, so the blood iv ended up in the same arm as the regular iv. My arms were SOOO bruised, I wish I had a picture. Plus, because my veins had collapsed, the iv that was the other fluid was no longer feeding into my veins, but my arm/ hand so my hand was REALLY swollen, it took about 24 hours for it to go back to its normal size. So, they brought Parker into me and it was the most crazy, overwhelming, indescribable, unreal.... moment/feeling I have ever had. He was PERFECT! He was (and still is) the most GORGEOUS baby ever. I was so overwhelmed with this love that you cannot describe and he was ours. He was part of Joe and I. We stayed in the hospital for about 3 days and I was SO ready to go home. The nurses offered to take Parker during the nights, but I didn't want him out of my sight, so he stayed with me. And coincidentally, he still sleeps best with me. Now, it has been 1 year later and he has changed SO much. I have heard that they change the most in the first year, and it is probably because they go from so tiny, to these busy little guys that get into EVERYTHING. Not that I would change a thing because he is so fun, and cute. He knows how to fake cough, sneeze, and fake being sad. It is the cutest thing you have ever seen. He scrunched up his nose, squeezes his eyes, and pouts. He is a pro on pouting. And then he tries really hard and a single tear will fall down his cheek. He loves to eat, and share and he is such a joy. I have so much fun blogging about all the funny things that he does. So, Happy Birthday my wonderful little boy, I am so proud to be your mommy!
